Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall and Sameueli Theater in Costa Mesa, California; owned by Orange County Performing Arts Center; Pelli Clarke Pelli, architect; Gruen Associates, associate architect; Artec Consultants, theatre and acoustical consultants.
On the selection committee were: Barton Myers, FAIA, president/design principal of Barton Myers & Associates of Los Angeles, California; D.J. Palladino, award-winning arts writer and editor based in Santa Barbara, California; and Damian J. Doria, FASA, one of Artec’s principal auditorium designers and principal acousticians.
Projects were evaluated on creativity, contextual resonance, functional operation, exploration of new technologies, and community contribution. All projects have been completed since January 1, 2000.
The Awards will be presented Friday evening April 2 at the 50th USITT Annual Conference & Stage Expo in Kansas City, Missouri during the Architecture Award Review, Presentation and Reception.
The award-winning projects will be featured in a special exhibit at Stage Expo. After the Conference, the display will be made available for exhibition at schools and other institutions across the United States.
