Damian J. Doria (Managing Director / Principal Consultant)

Damian's Projects Experience

Damian Doria is one of Artec's Principal Auditorium Designers and Principal Acousticians, focusing his attention on development of acoustic designs and assurance of continued quality of our facilities.

Since joining Artec in 1994, Damian Doria has applied his knowledge of acoustical engineering and music to a wide range of projects. His expertise in noise and vibration control, sound isolation, and room acoustics has advanced the quality of Artec's designs, while his musical training has greatly contributed to Artec's process of planning concert venues.

Damian was appointed President of Artec in 1997 by Artec's Founding Chairman, Russell Johnson and had the privilege of working alongside him in development of Artec's designs including the Lucerne Concert Hall, Sala Sao Paulo, Miami's Adrienne Arsht Center and later in the conceptualization and realization of Artec's designs for Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall Acoustic Enhancement Project, Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall, and Orange County's Henry and Renée Segerstrom Concert Hall. He is presently leading Artec's services in the ongoing development and construction of projects in The City of Carmel Indiana's Performing Arts Center, and Reykjavik's East Harbour Culture and Congress Center, and providing oversight and design assistance to our staff for a number of other ongoing projects.

Prior to joining Artec, Damian held acoustical engineering positions at Brooks Acoustics Corporation dba United Acoustics Consultants, where he was involved in the architectural design of offices and worship spaces, as well as industrial noise control and quiet product design.

Damian received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in acoustics and music from the University of Hartford. His curriculum included courses in engineering acoustics, noise control, mechanical engineering design, sound technology, computer music, and formal music training. While at the University, Mr. Doria was employed as an adjunct faculty, instructing courses in Introductory Physics, Optics, and Recording Technology. He was also employed for four years as a recording engineer at Hartt Recording Studios, where he was involved in amateur and professional recording projects and in theatrical sound design.

Damian is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma Engineering Societies, and the Order of the Engineer.

Damian organized and chaired the 147th meeting of The Acoustical Society of America in New York City in May of 2004, and remains active on a number of technical and administrative committees.
