Skirball Theater is located within the Jack H.
Skirball Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of New
York University. Skirball Center is, in turn, part of the new
Helen
and Martin Kimmel University Center, which opened in late 2003.
The University Center provides facilities to the undergraduate campus
and student organizations, and also includes the Eisner and Lubin
Auditorium, a flat-floor flexible performance space that can accommodate
lecture and film presentations, popular music concerts, and other
student programming.
With the capability of seating up to 1000 people,
through various stage and seating arrangements, Skirball Theater
is used for University presentations as well as touring productions.
The basic design of the auditorium as well as the integrated specialized
performance equipment and broadcast systems make this an ideal venue
for everything from conferences to cabaret, from student orchestra
productions to television broadcasts. In addition to the more traditional
broadcasting and recording capabilities, the Skirball Theater is
also highly connected with other performance and meeting spaces
throughout the Kimmel Center.
Its Greenwich Village location and its capability
to seat more than most theaters on Broadway, make it a desirable
New York City performance venue. Featuring a carefully designed
stagehouse, a sprung stage for dance, and state-of-the-art technology
for new media and broadcast capabilities, the Skirball
Center is set to serve both the renowned NYU performance education
community and professional touring groups, excellently.
